The Best Five National Scenic Byways for RVing

If you like to drive by the most beautiful and breathtaking areas of the US, the National Scenic Byways are the best choice for RVing. These roads are recognized by the United States Department of Transportation for their many archeological, cultural, historic, natural, recreational and attractive qualities. This program which is administered by the Federal Highway Administration, was established by Congress in 1991 to protect and preserve our nation?s scenic areas, and also to promote our tourism and our economic development.

At the moment, there are 98 Scenic Byways and 27 All-American Roads, located in 45 states. The All-American Roads is another program in which are recognized the roads that have features that do not exist elsewhere in the US and are scenic enough to be tourist destinations unto themselves. The states that do not have this kind of road recognitions are Hawaii, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Texas.

This year, the National Scenic Byways Program has recognized 20 of America's best byways that celebrate the pride and diversity of their communities as well as stunning landscapes. The states that have more chosen byways are Alabama, California, Colorado and Connecticut and the states included on the top five are Alabama (with 2 byways), Alaska, Arizona and Arkansas.

The five best National Scenic Byways were the following:

First was the Selma to Montgomery March Byway, a 43 mile byway that follows the trail of the 1965 march led by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. In second place was the Talladega Scenic Drive which is a 26 mile road through the Talladega National Forest. In the third place was the Seward Highway, a 127 mile highway that passes rugged mountain peaks, meadows and crystal clear lakes of southern Alaska between Anchorage and Seward. In the forth place was Kaibab Plateau-North Rim Parkway in Arizona, and in fifth place was the Crowley?s Ridge Parkway. Each one is crowned with its own spectacular views and landscapes.
