State Parks and Campgrounds---State Tourist Travel Information

The first of the 13 colonies to ratify the United States Constitution, thus making it the first state in the union was the state of Delaware on December 7, 1787. This fact has made that this state is known as the “First State”.

This state is well-known for offering a peaceful ambience, friendly people and attractive small cities and towns. Its capital is Dover and the state’s largest city is Wilmington which is also its economic hub. This city is located within commuting distance of both Philadelphia and Baltimore.

Delaware is small; it is one of those East Coast states you can visit in a day. The great majority of the state is a part of the Atlantic Coastal Plain- its climate is moderated by the effects of the ocean. Some part of the state has a mild subtropical climate, with hot, humid summers and mild winters, but its upper portion of the state has a warm continental climate and receives occasional winter snowfall.

Visiting Dover in your RV is an amusing and fun experience you can’t miss! The sights here include a historic square, The Green, as well as the Old State House, the Air Mobility Command Museum and the historic Delaware Agricultural Museum and Village. Also enjoy the beaches and all activities the coastline offers to visitors.

In the other hand, Wilmington, home of the Du Pont Corporation, offers to you the Winterthur Museum and the Gardens and Library. In Lewes take the Cape May – Lewes Ferry across to Cape Mary, NJ for great marine panorama.
