State Parks and Campgrounds---State Tourist Travel Information

Georgia is a southern state of the United States and one of the thirteen colonies that revolted against British rule in the American Revolution. It became the fourth state after ratifying the US Constitution on January 2, 1788. The state’s nicknames are the Peach State and Empire State of the South. The state song “Georgia on My Mind” written by Hoagy Carmichael was voted when native famous musician Ray Charles sang it. He sang it on the legislative floor when the bill passed in an emotive event.

Atlanta is the capital and the largest city of Georgia. The state is divided in four tourism regions which are the Coast, the Historic South, the Mountains and the Southern Rivers. Traveling to Georgia in your RV you will discover a land rich in natural beauties and fascinating history. The Historic South is the heart and soul of Georgia. It’s an area rich in cultural heritage. In the Mountains region you will love the scenery and vistas, and you will enjoy the lakes and rivers, as well as in the Southern Rivers region, where you will find many outdoor activities to do. In the Coast, enjoy the beaches and relax with its landscapes.

From the battlefields of the Civil War to the center of the Civil Rights Movement, Georgia has been making history. It’s almost obligatory to check out the state landmarks and museums within the state.

This state is the birthplace of famous personages such as Dr. Martin Luther King, Jimmy Carter, Margaret Mitchell, Bobby Jones, Robert W. Woodruff and Ray Charles. A “must do” is to visit the Georgia Music Hall of Fame and Museum in Macon (the city where artists like Little Richards, James Brown, Otis Redding and the Allman Brothers Band launched their careers), the King Center established by Coretta Scott in 1968 (to preserve the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., of the nonviolent movement for justice, equality and peace), the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historic Site, the Jimmy Carter Library and Museum and the Margaret Mitchell House and Museum.
