State Parks and Campgrounds---State Tourist Travel Information

“Land of the Indians” is the meaning of the name of Indiana. The Capital of the state is Indianapolis and it’s very famous because of the Indianapolis 500 race that is one of the largest single-day events in the world. This state is also known as one of the Great Lakes states.

Mostly farmland in the North, you will enjoy the countryside in a lot of places. However, the northwest corner of the state is part of the greater metropolitan area of Chicago and is therefore more densely populated. Gary, a city on Lake Michigan, is effectively a suburb of Chicago, even though it is in Indiana.

You can take pleasure of Lake Michigan or if you want you will find plenty of other lakes in the area; actually, they are more than 100 of them in Kosciusko County.

Residents of Indiana are called Hoosiers, which is also the name used for a student of Indiana University, Bloomington. One famous Hoosier was the celebrity actor James Dean. You can visit the Fairmount Historical Museum where you are going to find items that are related to and were owned by Dean and his family including: awards, clothing and motorcycles. Also, the creator of Garfield the Cat, Jim Davis is honored at the museum.
