Maryland is one of the South Atlantic States, and one of the thirteen colonies that revolted against British rule in the American Revolution. The state is bounded on the north by Pennsylvania, on the west by West Virginia, on the east by Delaware and the Atlantic Ocean, and on the south, across the Potomac River, by Virginia. Its capital is the picturesque Annapolis and its largest city is Baltimore.

The state is divided in five tourism areas, which are Western, Central and Southern Maryland, Capital Region and Eastern Shore. If you are an adventurer, travel to Western Maryland and enjoy its pretty mountains that are perfect for hiking and white-water rapids for rafters. You can also come in winter and take pleasure in skiing. Take advantage of the Central Maryland area where you will find Maryland’s main cities, Annapolis and Baltimore, where there are many exciting things to do.

In 1791, Maryland donated the land that became Washington, D.C., in a generosity act. Since this, the state has benefited greatly and today the three Maryland counties in the Capital Region are attractive places to visit because its history, national parks that offers everything and a variety of great restaurants with down-home cooking to cuisine from around the world.

Visit also Southern Maryland where it was the state’s original capital, now called Historic St. Mary’s City and its history museums. Enjoy the beach resort of Ocean City located in the beautiful Eastern Shore, and try to taste the crabs, which succulent meat is the key ingredient in many a feast.
