The largest state by land area in the Midwestern United States is Minnesota. The most significant metropolitan area is known as the Twin Cities, which contains more than half of the state’s residents. This area includes the state’s most populous cities, Minneapolis and the capital Saint Paul, along with multiple “rings” of suburbs. The nicknames for the state include “Land of 10,000 Lakes" and the “North Star State".

Minnesota has four major regions which are the Northwest region, the Northeast region, Southern region and Metro region. The state is famous for its numerous lakes, you will find in each region of the state several lakes. In the Northwest region, there is a large variety of natural scenery. You will discover three different environments such as the western plains and prairies, the northern coniferous forest and the eastern hardwood forest. In the Northeastern region, you must visit the peaceful wilderness lakes of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area, the expansive waters of Voyageurs National Park and the scenic St. Croix River. In the Southern region, you will have the opportunity to see dozens of historic sites and museums with the stories of determined pioneers from Germany, Scandinavia and central Europe. The towns they founded are now noted for their remarkable architecture, antique shops, inns and ethnic festivals.
