State Parks and Campgrounds---State Tourist Travel Information

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is one of the four states of the United States that is called a commonwealth. The state is known as the Keystone State and it’s the most historic state in the country. In the largest city of the state, Philadelphia, the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution were drawn up by the Founding Fathers. For this reason, this city is often called the cradle of the American Nation.

When you visit the state of Pennsylvania, you must visit Philadelphia, home of the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall. Also, you have to go to the second major city that dominates the state, Pittsburgh, a busy inland river port and most important center for educational and technological advance. The Pocono Mountains and the Delaware Water Gap offer popular fun activities.

Pennsylvania's nickname “The Keystone State” is quite apt, as the state forms a geographic bridge both between the Northeastern states and the Southern states, and between the Atlantic seaboard and the Midwest.

The state is divided in seven tourism areas which are the Great Lakes, the Wilds, the Northeastern Mountain, Pittsburgh and Countryside, Central Mountains and Valleys, Dutch Country and Philadelphia and Countryside. In each region you will have the opportunity to take advantage of a wide variety of attractions.

For example, the Dutch Country, home to Harrisburg, capital of the state, is a favorite of sightseers. Here you will find the chocolate capital of the world due to the famous trademark Hershey. From railroads to coal mine tours, America’s oldest brewery to amusement parks, this region has several possibilities for RV travelers.
