State Parks and Campgrounds---State Tourist Travel Information

South Dakota is a Midwestern state in the United States. Its history is like reading an adventure story, with Indians, explorers and pioneers. This state has one of the largest Native American populations of any state; it’s the home of the Dakota, Lakota and Nakota tribes, which make up the Sioux Nation.

The same as in other states, in South Dakota you can also follow the trail of the explorers Lewis and Clark that traveled in 1804 and 1806 on their journey to the West Coast. You can drive following a list of highlights that begins at the southeastern tip of the state, where the explorers first entered into the state, and ends near the North Dakota border.

In addition, South Dakota is like its slogan says the state of the “Great Faces and Great Places”. It’s important that you take advantage of your trip and visit the famous Mount Rushmore National Memorial. The famous faces of four U.S. presidents measure 60 feet from forehead to chin and look out over a setting of pine, spruce, birch and aspen in the clear Western air.

Another place where you can go with your RV is to the romantic Black Hills, a beautiful place located in Rapid City. Also, you must visit the Crazy Horse Memorial. It’s interesting to know that South Dakota offers more than 100 museums and cultural centers, which helps to maintain and preserve the state’s culture and heritage.
