State Parks and Campgrounds---State Tourist Travel Information

The state of Texas is located in the South of the United States, bordering New Mexico on the west, Oklahoma on the north (across the Red River), and Louisiana (across the Sabine River) and Arkansas on the east. To the southwest, across the Rio Grande, this state borders the Mexican states of Chihuahua, Coahuila, Nuevo León and Tamaulipas. To the southeast, lies the Gulf of Mexico. Texas is the second largest U.S. state in both area and population.

The state has historically had a "larger than life" reputation, especially in cowboy films. The Texas’s capital is Austin and the largest city is Houston. This state is divided in 7 main regions which are the Big Bend Country, Hill Country, The Gulf Coast, Panhandle, Piney Woods, Prairies and Lakes and South Texas Plains.

If you choose to travel to Texas with your RV, you will have different attractions and activities to do, from surf, sand and sun to ranches and rodeo. The Big Bend Country is a paradise of colorful mountains and desert floors. In the Gulf Coast, enjoy the 600 miles of beaches, sand dunes and cultural attractions. In the Prairies and Lakes, try the exciting nightlife, shopping, sports and the amusement parks.

Also, you can’t miss tasting the food in Texas, it’s absolutely amazing! Its proximity to Mexico gives to their cuisine something special. You must try the famous Tex-Mex, rich with Mexican flavors and ingredients, teamed with Texas flair; Tex-Mex is only found in the Lone Star State. In fact, some of the dishes you won't find anywhere in Mexico. Or if you do, they'll look entirely different. Barbecues and Chili are also exquisite dishes you have to try.

Five largest cities in the state are Houston, San Antonio, Dallas, Austin, and Fort Worth. Texas is the only state to have three cities with populations exceeding 1 million (California has two, no other state has more than one), Houston, San Antonio, and Dallas, which are also among the 10 largest cities of the United States. Austin and Fort Worth are in the top 20 largest US cities.
