Located in New England region, the state of Vermont is noted mainly for the Green Mountains in the west and Lake Champlain in the northwest. This territory was claimed by France in the past, but became a British possession after France’s defeat in the French and Indian War. Eventually, Vermont became the 14th state to join the United States.

Famous for its scenery, dairy products and maple syrup, Vermont's capital is Montpelier, while the largest city is Burlington. About 77 percent of the state is covered by forest, the rest in meadow, uplands, lakes, ponds and swampy wetlands.

This state is the second largest in the New England region, and it’s divided in 10 regions. For example, in Montpelier you will find the Old Barre Opera House with 100 years serving the residents and visitors.
