State Parks and Campgrounds---State Tourist Travel Information

The Commonwealth of Virginia is the official name of this state. It’s one of the four states which use the name commonwealth. Virginia was one of the original 13 states of the United States that revolted against British rule in the American Revolution. The state’s capital is Richmond and its largest city is Virginia Beach.

The state is also recognized as the “Mother of Presidents” because more US Presidents were born in this state than in any other. George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, James Monroe and Woodrow Wilson were Virginians and they were also re-elected to a second term. The other three Virginians in the list of American Presidents were William Henry Harrison, John Tyler and Zachary Taylor.

“Virginia Is For Lovers” is the famous and successful slogan that was invented 35 years ago by the Virginia State Travel Service, now the Virginia Tourism Corporation. The slogan used a red heart that after the success of this campaign inspired other states such as New York with its “I Love New York”.

This state is a RV deluxe destination with many things to do. Virginia is divided in five main regions which are Tidewater, Piedmont, Blue Ridge Mountains, Valley and Ridge and the Appalachian Plateau.
